As skipper of BT, the IMOCA 60 yacht he sailed in the ultimate solo race, the Vendee Globe, he has dealt with seemingly insurmountable challenges – not least a broken rudder whilst alone in the remote South Atlantic Ocean – and emerged every time smiling, and ready for more.
